Elevating a unique coastal fashion brand
Catnip & Seaweed needed to update their branding to better align with their evolving vision and target audience. The brand initially aimed for a street-meets-beach aesthetic but is now shifting towards a more sophisticated, coastal luxury feel. The rebrand focused on creating a cohesive brand story that resonates with their ideal customer: a coastal, travel-loving, luxury-seeking individual aged anywhere from 28-55. Additionally, it was important for the brand to keep Nipsea, the catmermaid, and make her more elegant while maintaining her uniqueness.
Catnip & Seaweed was known for their fun catmermaid, Nipsea, but she appeared too youthful and playful. Her design also didn’t work well at different sizes due to the detailed face, thin linework, and rectangular shape.
We created a more elevated interpretation of Nipsea using more realistic cat and mermaid imagery. This new design features a cat’s profile without facial details and uses filled shapes instead of outlines.
As a bonus, this new representation of Nipsea incorporates additional visual elements: a water droplet, a hatched egg, and subtle “C” and “S” shapes.
To ensure consistent branding, we created various print materials for Catnip & Seaweed, including bags, hang tags, and tissue paper. We also developed social media and email templates to enhance the brand’s marketing efforts. Additionally, we designed a mockup for a website refresh to incorporate the core elements of the brand into their online presence.
