Inviting more people to take care of their mental health
The Professional Psychology Clinic (PPC) at the University of Denver needed a strategic paid campaign to bring in more clients while communicating the care and credibility of a university-based psychology clinic. Working together, we defined audience “buckets,” refined brand personality and campaign messaging, and mapped requirements across newsletter partner placements and web ads, creating a clear creative direction for visuals and copy.
A key challenge was balancing accessibility with quality: the campaign had to feel welcoming and approachable for a diverse audience, without reading as “cheap” or low-value.
I adapted an established hand-illustrated character style of mine to create a custom figure for this campaign. The client wanted a faceless, genderless, and racially nonspecific character, one that could feel welcoming and relatable to a broad range of people, so the character’s identity is communicated through gesture, movement, and pose rather than facial expression.
Whether reaching for support or unpacking what they are carrying, each pose gives the campaign an immediate emotional language. Hand-drawn marks and colored-pencil textures keep the work feeling human and emotionally real, while DU crimson creates a bold, cohesive backdrop.
PPC needed the designs to appeal to multiple audiences and ensure that the designs did not become stale after retargeting. We developed 3 custom illustrations to address these needs.
